Hematology is one of the most complex yet critically important fields of medicine. Blood disorders can remain unnoticed for a long time while significantly affecting health and quality of life, says Dr. Yermek Eszhanov, a hematologist at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A hematologist is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases affecting the blood, hematopoietic system, and lymphatic organs. Hematology is closely linked with oncohematology, immunology, genetics, and transfusiology. Additionally, hematologists prepare patients for bone marrow transplantation and manage their post-transplant care.
Conditions treated by hematologists include:
- Diseases of the bone marrow and hematopoietic system
- Malignant blood disorders
- Hemostasis disorders (coagulopathies)
- Other blood and lymphatic system diseases
- Lymphatic system disorders
Today, the diagnosis of hematopoietic system diseases has advanced significantly. One of the modern minimally invasive methods used at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan includes trephine biopsy of the iliac crest and bone marrow aspiration, allowing for a detailed analysis of the cellular composition.
Hematological care continues to develop at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, opening new opportunities for diagnostics and therapy.
