Parkinson’s Disease Patient Forum was held at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstanon on the occasion of the World Parkinson's Disease Day.

The goal of the forum was to discover the symptoms of the disease, to teach patients how to treat it, to provide psychological support and medical help from doctors.

An annual event, the forum attracts more patients from other cities. This year, 25 patients and their families from Almaty, Pavlodar and Uralsk participated in the event. The program of the forum included a Nordic Walking master class for patients and a dance therapy session used in the rehabilitation of patients with Parkinson’s disease. Encouraging part of the day was a story of patient Shynar Itkusova who struggled with Parkinson's disease for the last 6 years and in spite of the disease gave birth to a healthy child.

Informative reports were presented at the forum: “Peculiarities of nutrition in Parkinson’s disease” - Altynai Tungushbayeva, nutrition expert of the Hospital; “Modern methods of surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease” - Talgat Yermekov, neurosurgeon and Islambek Mussabekov neurosurgeon of the Hospital; “What are fluctuations?” - Angela Taskinbayeva, parkinsonologist - neurologist, Almaty.

- “The Parkinson's School helps patients feel still confident and alert, both with their families and in the community. The reason we have invited patients to the forum along with family members is to provide them with maximum medical and psychological support. Today's participants are grateful that the forum was useful and important. Our colleagues from Almaty saw the enthusiastic patients and suggested that next year we hold the forum in the southern capital,” says Raushan Tautanova, a parkinsonologist - neurologist and forum organizer.
