Allergy Centre

About the Center
All clinical and laboratory, instrumental, genetic and specific allergological methods of patient examination with allergic diseases, chronic forms of urticaria fever, recurrent angioedema, including hereditary angioedema, with primary and secondary immunodeficiency are carried out in the Presidential Hospital. As part of a multidisciplinary approach to patient management, the Center interacts with all departments of the Presidential Hospital. In order to ensure the most effective treatment of patients, doctors of the following specialties are involved, if necessary: dermatologists, rheumatologists, hematologists, ENT doctors, nephrologists, gynecologists, gastroenterologists. If medically required, resuscitation assistance is provided. The patient can have consultation or hospitalization according to the republican budget (the attached contingent), under the contract of voluntary medical insurance or on a paid basis. Matching of allergens and treatment courses is made by allergologist-immunologist doctor taking into account special needs of each patient. Allergy Centre of the Hospital of the PAA offers the most advanced methods for the effective diagnostic, treatment and prevention of all types of allergy. We use the most advanced skin allergotest panels and make professional interpretation thereof. Highly skilled personnel of the MCH of the PAA ensures top-grade and safe conduct of skin tests. Our Centre also offers tableted allergy vaccines supplied from the EU.

Structure of the Center

  • Consultative and Diagnostic Department of Allergology and Immunology
  • Day hospital of Allergology and Immunology

Services of the Center

  • To provide qualified consultative and diagnostic outpatient care to children from birth
  • Outpatient and inpatient medical care for adult patients in the profile “Allergology and Immunology”
  • Complete examination and treatment of classical allergic diseases (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria)
  • Consulting of patients with indeterminate diagnosis
  • Preparation of patients suffering from allergic diseases (including drug hypersensitivity and allergy to medicines) for surgeries and manipulations

Methods of diagnostics of allergy and allergic diseases

  • Allergotests (skin tests) – drop, patch, scratch tests, intradermal test, prick and patch tests – all types of allergy including skin tests in case of allergic contact dermatitis and before allergen specific immunotherapy
  • ImmunoCAP leading-edge technology of diagnosis of allergy
  • Extensive diagnosis of allergy (all types) according to results of blood analyses

Skin allergotests
Skin tests with allergens. The presence of allergy is determined according to response on the spot of allergen introduction. This method is extensively used in diagnostics of allergic contact dermatitides and conducted before allergen specific immunotherapy. Allergic type patients take advantage of our Centre to prepare for X-ray examination, surgical treatment, or various medical manipulations. The patient and his or her attending physician can receive recommendations on conducting of balanced drug therapy in the presence of drug allergy in past medical history. At the doctor’s office we give you an up-close look at methods of primary and secondary prevention of allergy diseases. Skin allergotest is a traditional and reliable method of diagnosis of allergy. Skin allergotests usually include prick tests, scratch and intradermal tests with various allergens (normally standards sets). During a skin test, specific allergens are applied onto skin or introduced intradermally. The presence of allergy is determined according to response thereto (redness, allergic response on the spot of allergen application/introduction). It is a reasonably accurate and time-proved method of diagnosis of allergy.

Counterindications

  • Exacerbation of the present allergic disease
  • Acute infectious process (ARVI, tonsils)
  • Exacerbation of another chronic disease
  • Grave condition of the patient
  • Long-term hormonotherapy (corticosteroids)
  • Pregnancy

That is why before conducting allergotests it is necessary to make general examination (according to indications). In the presence of any counterindications, the diagnosis of allergy can be conducted with the use of blood analyses. Furthermore, skin allergotests are not conducted on top of already administered therapy with antihistaminic drugs and in patients aged above 60 years.

Primary and secondary prevention of allergic diseases

Allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT) is the only method of treatment of allergic diseases affecting all elements of allergy process. Synonyms: specific immunotherapy (SIT); allergen specific hyposensitization therapy, specific allergen vaccination (SAV). ASIT allows reducing the severity of clinical presentations, preventing the development of complications of an allergy disease, or preventing the expansion of allergy spectrum. Allergic rhinitis and pollen fever are pre-asthmatic diseases; opportune conduct of ASIT in such patients allows, in most cases, preventing the development of bronchial asthma, and in the presence of bronchial asthma inducing long-term remission and considerable symptomatic relief. The ASIT method was developed in 1911 as an empirical method. Up to the present day, its unique mechanisms of effect on the immune system are being discovered. From the time of introduction of ASIT, there has been accumulated a wealth of experience of its clinical application; allergy vaccines are also continuously improved. Successful clinical result of ASIT is achieved in 80-90 % of cases. This method lies in introduction of cause-significant allergens in ascending dose for the creation of antiallergic immunity. After 3-5 year course of ASIT it is possible to induce long-term remission of the allergic disease. According to international recommendations, ASIT shall be used from the age of 5 years.

Expected therapeutic benefits

  • Reduction of cause-significant allergens’ sensitization
  • Prevention of allergic diseases transformation into more severe forms
  • Full recovery

Mode of administration

  • For the purpose of conducting ASIT, a physician shall assign intradermal injections according to a specific scheme: both before the pollination season (ejection of pollen by plants) and during the whole year.

There are various courses of treatment

  • Short-term pre-season treatment
  • Complete pre-season treatment
  • Year-round treatment
